Job Description


As part of the Business Development transaction team, this person will be responsible for the development, analysis, communication, recommendation, negotiation and execution of licenses and collaborations that advance Amgen's strategic objectives.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Develop relationships and partner closely with leadership across Research & Development (R&D), Commercial, and Finance to value and structure potential licenses and collaborations
  • Lead and manage cross functional teams (e.g., R&D, Commercial, Legal, Manufacturing, and Finance) in the development of detailed evaluations of transaction opportunities
  • Develop and recommend transaction structures, strategies and tactics that will maximize the value of a deal
  • Manage deal process for business development initiatives
  • Negotiate and obtain approval for transactions, managing both internal and external stakeholders
  • Maintain an in-depth understanding of Amgen's current and anticipated future products, therapeutic areas and technologies to facilitate the identification and evaluation of opportunities
  • Monitor and maintain an updated perspective on the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries as well as companies, technologies and therapeutic areas of interest to Amgen
  • Maintain a strong network of industry contacts to build opportunities for Amgen
  • Support integration processes on transactions



Basic Qualifications

Doctorate degree and 4 years of Biopharmaceutical Business Development experience
Master's degree and 8 years of Biopharmaceutical Business Development experience
Bachelor's degree and 10 years of Biopharmaceutical Business Development experience


4 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources

Preferred Qualifications

Doctorate degree in Life Sciences with 5+ years' experience in Biopharmaceutical industry

Self-starter with exceptional leadership abilities and the proven ability to work successfully in a cross-functional, high paced biopharmaceutical environment

Deal sheet with track record of successfully executing licensing, co-development/co-commercialization transactions

Demonstrated ability to take leadership and key support roles on multiple projects

Ability to manage and influence cross-functional teams

Ability to formulate and clearly deliver complex information, issues and recommendations in both written and oral presentations to Senior Management

Excellent analytical and math skills

Ability to develop and use complex financial models to make decisions

Strong understanding of biology as it applies to the biotechnology industry

Understanding of healthcare practices, regulations and approval processes

Excellent understanding of corporate finance concepts and the fundamentals of the equity markets
