Main Duties and Responsibilities

The Director, Brand Communications, is a strategic communications role supporting one or more of our US Oncology franchise heads and reporting to the Head of Corporate Affairs, Oncology. This role will develop US Oncology franchise-level external and internal communications strategies and plans, including: brand public relations, media, internal communications, advocacy, corporate reputation, policy and medical communications. This role will serve on a franchise leadership team(s), representing Corporate Affairs. This ideal candidate possesses a good blend of strategic planning, know-how in stakeholder engagement, and strong communication skills and experiences to collaborate and engage with others, and execute against communications strategies that deliver results for the business.

In this exciting role, you will have the opportunity to provide strategic communications counsel to Oncology franchise head(s) and develop and deliver robust public relations strategies and plans for a portfolio of brands, while ensuring brand communication strategies are integrated with each other, across US Oncology, AstraZeneca’s Oncology Business Unit and the broader business. You will oversee all external communications for a portfolio of Oncology brands, identify opportunities for Brand Communications, and Corporate Affairs as a function, to help support the US Oncology portfolio, advance the business. You’ll protect and enhance the reputation of AstraZeneca brands and AstraZeneca businesses through delivery and implementation of AstraZeneca approach to brand issues management, in close collaboration with commercial and science leaders, Legal and Regulatory and other communication groups. You will have the chance to collaborate regularly and effectively with colleagues in Marketing, Medical, Legal, Compliance and Regulatory functions to deliver Corporate Affairs initiatives as well as Corporate Affairs counsel into other functions’ initiatives, while increasing internal and external understanding and awareness of US Oncology brands and initiatives while ensuring these efforts link back to business’ overall strategic goals. In addition, you will serve as liaison with PR Agencies, Digital / Social Agencies, you will write / edit materials to be used internally and externally to help tell the US Oncology story in an engaging and appropriate manner, and you’ll participate in brand leadership meetings providing strong strategic communications counsel to internal clients.

Requirements

Essential Requirements

  • BS in Marketing, Communications or related field
  • At least 7-10 years’ experience in public relations, corporate affairs, communications or related field
  • Understanding of Public Relations or Communications in a number of brands and at different stages of the lifecycle
  • Excellent writing skills and media relations skills (including strategy)
  • Ability to identify opportunities and challenges and solve them / capitalize on them
  • Understanding of strategic use of social and digital media
  • Ability to navigate complex and matrixed organizations
  • Amenable to after-hours work and weekend responsibilities.
Desirable Requirements
  • Substantial experience in healthcare communications
  • Experience supporting Oncology products or businesses
  • Experience operating in a large corporation with multiple internal and external stakeholders
  • Budget management experience
  • Understanding of mid- to large-sized PR agency
  • Understanding of marketing principles and its application within communications / Corporate Affairs
