The Director, Biologics External Sourcing in Gaithersburg, MD Leads and manages multiple business and supply related functions: contract administration, supply planning, procure to pay, distribution to deliver high quality, reliable supply from third party contract manufacturers (CMO’s) across the globe. Accountable for managing all end-to-end activities for Biologics External Sourcing, including product release and ensures all CMO’s adhere to company policies.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements integrated supply strategies that cover multiple functional areas within supply chain delivery and that aligns with and supports the organization’s vision, current and long-term business objectives
  • Defines commercial and operating delivery structure for all aspects of supply chain delivery within a large and complex environment, ensuring full integration of supply services and supporting systems and technology
  • Establishes strong business links with executive team members and key stakeholders to understand supply needs and develop strategies that support sales growth and enhance efficiency
  • Leads due diligence activity for external parties, determining requirements for third party support, developing and negotiating key commercial terms, in collaboration with Procurement/Strategic Sourcing and undertaking ongoing service level and contract management
  • Contributes to the development of AstraZeneca wide policy and process within the supply area, partnering with Biologics Supply Chain CoE, GES leadership and Global Supply Chain leadership to provide input into strategic direction of the function
  • Defines and monitors operational supply chain performance targets within own area, setting key performance indicators, measuring progress and activity taking remedial action to deliver against agreed service standards. Acts as primary contact for senior leaders and proactively provides key strategic, contract and operational information.
  • Optimizes key relationships with organizations (e.g. GES, GSC&S, external supplier networks) to take full advantage of efficiencies and meet business objectives
  • As part of the Biologics Supply Operations Leadership Team, leads the development and implementation of the Biologics Strategy
  • Identifies and deliver enhancements in process quality and efficiency, deriving both enhancements within the AZ structure and via external suppliers
  • Leads a high-performance culture and ensures proper implementation of leading edge capabilities to become a world class organization
  • Supports senior staff to coach and develop talent to ensure a healthy talent pipeline and succession for senior positions
  • Helps role model the AstraZeneca values, Operations 2020 Behaviors, and support senior employees to motivate and empower staff to deliver outstanding performance and customer service

Requirements

Essential Requirements

  • Graduate status or equivalent
  • Safety Health and Environmental and Good Manufacturing Practice qualifications
  • Experience in a planning and logistics within a manufacturing environment
  • Ability to influence and direct stakeholder decision-making at senior levels
  • Proven leadership skills, including demonstrated ability to empower others to accomplish individual, team and organizational objectives
  • Demonstrated analytical and logic skills with a focus on fact-based decision making.
  • Proven ability to drive change within a diverse and matrix organizational environment
  • Demonstrated ability to set and manage priorities, resources, performance targets and project initiatives in a global environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as proven negotiation, collaboration and interpersonal leadership skills
  • Experience of leading an External Manufacturing team and working in a global environment
  • Willingness to travel both domestically and internationally

Desirable Requirements

  • Masters Degree / MBA
  • Advanced business management skill-set including both financial planning and team management
  • Operational expertise in risk management and contingency planning
  • Effective problem and conflict resolution skills and proven team focus
  • Ability to communicate in multiple languages
