We seek a proven leader in Analytical Chemistry for our San Diego research facility. The candidate will lead a team within the Chemical Technologies group responsible for all aspects of analytical chemistry and scale up in support of drug discovery, including oversight of mass-based purification of medicinal chemistry compounds, chiral separations, extensive liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry instrumentation, maintaining and developing a suite of NMR instruments and developing cutting edge analytical solutions to drug design.

The ideal candidate will bring broad analytical expertise to the department that expands our capabilities beyond existing strengths in separations and mass spectrometry of small molecules to protein. The candidate will be expected to develop strong and effective working relationships with drug discovery project teams and the chemical biology group to help identifying critical gaps and proposing effective solutions.

The candidate will have strong track record in analytical chemistry as demonstrated in peer reviewed publications and influence in the field. The candidate should be fluent with current developments in analytical chemistry including advances in hardware and technology and a broad understanding of spectroscopic techniques and their applications.


Minimum Qualifications
•   PhD (or equivalent degree) in Chemistry or Analytical Chemistry
•   9+ plus years’ experience
•   3 plus years' experience leading a team of 8-12 Scientists
•   Experience in strategic planning, team leadership, laboratory and budget management
•   Demonstrated contributions in analytical chemistry in a drug discovery environment
•   A broad understanding of drug discovery
•   Demonstrated track record in the chemical design and synthesis, as well as biological characterization of drug candidates
•   Proven ability to champion and advance innovative concepts
•   Experience developing people and mentoring group members
•   Effective communication skills, both verbal and written

•   Demonstrated significant and quantifiable involvement in R&D efforts that have led to the development of first in class and /or best in class drug candidates
