This individual reports to the Head of Biologics Technology under MM-O / Strategy & Technology and is responsible for supporting key technical programs and projects within the MM-O Bioscience division. Responsibilities will be to develop, implement, maintain and trouble shoot automation and process control solutions for various biologics manufacturing processes. The position is a part of a team driven to identify, develop and deliver innovative solutions to improve process capability and production volume while maintaining and improving Quality standards.
 
Position Responsibilities (Description)
 
· The successful candidate will evaluate and improve existing processes and configure semi-automated or automated systems to improve production rates, efficiencies, yields, costs and changeovers.
 
· Responsible for the design and improvements of manufacturing processes, implementation of instrumentation, automation of workstations and data transfer to LIMS/MES systems.
 
· Participate in conceptual planning and scoping of automation software and hardware changes for site projects and tech transfers as well as maintain and communicate performance metrics for her or his team and contribute to an environment of continuous learning, improvement, and innovation.
 
· Responsible for developing software specifications and solutions, implementing software strategies, testing software designs.
 
· Establishes operating equipment specifications and improves manufacturing techniques. 
 
· Assists the manufacturing operation in problem solving with regards to equipment and systems.
 
· Provides expertise in engineering, design and process and/or scale-up.
 
· Develops and recommends new process formulas and technologies to achieve cost effectiveness and improved product quality.
 
 
· Involved in new product scale-up, process optimization, technology transfer, and process validation activities. 
 
· Interfaces with various departments to ensure processes and designs are compatible for new product technology transfer and to establish future process and equipment automation technology.

Requirements

· Bachelor degree in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Biochemistry, Computer Science or related technical field.
 
· 5+ years of relevant a biotech or bio-pharma manufacturing environment developing process automation utilizing mechanical, electrical and programming skills.
 
· Demonstrated experience with automation, robotics and HTS required.
 
· Knowledge of LIMS / MES system hardware, software and processes.
 
· Knowledge of software engineering programming languages (Labview, XML, etc.).
 
· Knowledge of mechanical engineering software (AutoCAD, Solidworks, etc.).
 
· Knowledge of common interfacing standards for manufacturing computer systems and familiarity with biotechnology processes, instrumentation and equipment (Biomek, Tecan, plate carousels, etc.).
 
· Demonstrated excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, technical writing, creative problem solving and a team oriented attitude.
 
· Experience leading and managing key technical programs preferred.
 
· Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
 
· Track record of accomplishment.
