We are looking for a Medical Technologist for the Cytogenetic department in our Elmwood Park, NJ location to work Sunday-Thursday 2am-10:30am.

SUMMARY: The Cytogenetic Technologist prepares, examines and analyzes chromosomes found in biological specimens like blood, amniotic fluids and bone marrow to help diagnose and treat genetic diseases.


Duties may include but are not necessarily limited to the following:

•   Performs lab procedures of moderate and high complexity in accordance with standards set forth in sectional laboratory procedures.
•   Completes routine and STAT testing within acceptable turn-around time guidelines.
•   Prepare for shift by gathering needed supplies, i.e. reagents plates and date and initial reagents that are put in use.
•   Perform duties in independent manner with no direct supervision required.
•   Performs quality control procedures established for each method and maintains accurate records.
•   Reviews accuracy and completeness of results prior to releasing in the Laboratory Information System (if applicable). Recognizes unexpected or unreasonable results and/or testing delays and takes appropriate corrective action as needed.
•   Performs preventative and corrective maintenance/repairs and maintains records of actions.
•   Review calibration and quality control prior to testing and/or resulting.



Minimum Required:

•   Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology, Chemistry, Biology, or Related life Science.
•   2 or more years of experience as a Medical Technologist.
•   State Licensure, where applicable.

Minimum Preferred:
•   ASCP or other national certification.
•   Ability to read and understand a Levy-Jennings Chart.
