Wilmington, DE, you’ll play a pivotal role in channeling our scientific capabilities to make a positive impact on changing patients’ lives. North American Commercial is the ‘face’ of AstraZeneca and MedImmune to our many healthcare clients. They represent many of the most well recognized and respected products in the industry, and build strong relationships with healthcare professionals.

     AstraZeneca holds a unique position in respiratory disease, including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), with a range of differentiated potential medicines in development by leveraging novel combinations, biologics and devices. The pipeline also has a number of promising assets in inflammatory and autoimmune diseases within areas such as psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, gout, systemic lupus and rheumatoid arthritis.    

     Main Duties and Responsibilities    


     You will be responsible for supporting the Executive Business Director in strategic thinking and decision making to facilitate critical business priorities. There are for core remits of this role:    

     Responsible party for all aspects of resourcing strategy including cross functional engagement and collaboration to deliver on budget and against HR headcount expectations. Resourcing strategy also includes identification of opportunities and facilitation of courageous conversations to progress the general manager thinking and impact as it relates to Flexible Deployment of Resources.    

     Accountable to drive alignment around strategy, behaviors & activities that will deliver business results (sales). This includes identifying opportunities for new growth, driving accountability to maximize pull through efforts and results across the Business Unit, and conducting field rides to gain local market insights to be shared across Commercial partners.    

     Champion and indirectly lead sales teams toward the goal of ‘Best in Class’ Sales Force Effectiveness through enhancing knowledge and understanding on the value of call plan adherence and leading a greater focus on sales force effectiveness behaviors    

     Develop, support and inspire sales leaders to invest in their people and create a Great Place to Work.    

     Additional Responsibilities    


     You will be responsible for engaging cross functional leaders (HR, Operations, Finance, brand teams) to lead sound business decision making in the areas of Headcount Strategy, Flexible Deployment of Resources, and P&L management    

     Support identification of new growth initiatives (aligned to strategy) through collection of local market insight including Health Systems    

     Maintain effective focus on prioritized pull through opportunities aligned to Brand forecast in order to realize sustained growth    

     Share regional insights and highlight best practices across nation to capitalize on and replicate great behaviors    


     Identify business success and opportunities that will drive regional and national business results; identify what is the landscape and where can we win    

     Identify opportunities and engage cross functional stakeholders to deliver a Performance-Focused, Leader-Led Culture    

     Deliver context and clarity in support of the commercial strategy    

     Educate and train others on latest trends and impact of emerging payer models    

     Lead analysis of resource impact to enable decision making by CBDs

     Indirectly lead sales teams toward the goal of ‘Best in Class’ Sales Force Effectiveness.

     Partner cross functionally (Training, HR, Operations, Insights, Sales, MAPS, Medical, etc.) to optimize business processes that make a difference and deliver sales results.    



     Essential Requirements:    


  •        Bachelor's degree; preferably in a relevant field (e.g. Business, Marketing, Communications, Science)      
  •        6+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry; preferably with diversified experience in Sales/Sales leadership, Marketing and Analytics, and/or Sales Training      
  •        Accountability to driving performance results through empowerment and teaming is strongly preferred      

     Desirable Requirements:    

  •        Advanced Degree      
  •        Ability to lead without authority and influence change      
  •        Strong communication and interpersonal skills      
  •        Proven success with strategic thinking and effective decision making      
  •        Ability to gauge the feasibility, impact and risks of proposed programs      
  •        Strong teamwork, influencing and collaboration skills      
  •        Demonstrated ability to collaborate across groups of diverse backgrounds and skills      
  •        Experience in Sales and/or Brand Leadership (ideally both) or equivalent experience      
  •        Demonstrated understanding of legal/regulatory requirements and corporate policies and guidelines that impact promotional activities
