Under the direction of the Sr. Supervisor, supervise and perform technical functions assigned to the area of Clinical Laboratory testing for the UCLA Santa Monica Laboratory. Responsible for assigning work, prioritizing and organizing projects, serving as the liaison with other departments, coordinating work schedules, collaborating with the Sr. Supervisor on performance evaluations, ensuring the maintenance of quality control and quality assurance programs, ensuring the technical competency of staff and disciplining employees. Technical functions include: Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, performance of quality control and proficiency testing, test reporting, and other duties as assigned. Assist in updating the Laboratory Procedure manual, preparing summaries and other reports for the Sr. Supervisor. Troubleshoot and resolve testing problems in the area of responsibility. Must comply with all regulatory requirements set forth by the State of California, CAP and CLIA when performing all lab functions.
The following are required: A current California Clinical Laboratory Scientist License, four years recent experience in a busy hospital laboratory setting. Must have knowledge of chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis to support treatment of patients and in order to interact with physicians, pharmacists and other healthcare personnel. Experience/understanding of Blood Bank preferred. Must have management skills such as planning, organizing, directing, and coordinating the work of others. Anticipate and respond to customer service expectations of the Health System and the Clinical Laboratories. Must have current knowledge of CAP, JCAHO, California State, CLIA, CLSI and Cal OSHA guidelines and regulations for laboratories. Must be able to work cooperatively as a member of a team and maintain a positive humanistic attitude. Must be able to work independently and follow through on assignments with minimal supervision.
