Job Duties:

Under general supervision of the Manager and/or Senior Supervisor Clinical Lab Technologist, perform independently a wide variety of technical procedures in Bacteriology.  Other responsibilities include method development-modification-parallel testing, collaboration on or independent preparation of abstracts or manuscripts, maintenance repair of laboratory instruments, sample processing, reagent preparation, and data entry.  On a daily basis, assess overall workload for any area that needs help and assist co-workers without being reassigned by the supervisor.


Job Qualifications:

The following are required:  A current California Clinical Laboratory Scientist License.  Must have a minimum of at least two years experience in current technical and practical experience in Bacteriology.  Strong educational background and advanced training in Microbiology. Demonstrated working knowledge of current instrumentations:  bioMerieux BacT/Alert and Vitek systems, Centrifuges, Water Baths, Analytical Balance, Fume hood, Biological Safety Cabinet, Incubator.   Clinical and Technical knowledge: Microbiologic techniques, Bacteriology identification methods, Reference ranges, Test methodologies, Instrument operation and maintenance, CAP and other regulatory requirements. Personal computer knowledge.  Must have knowledge of disease states associated with the tests performed in the area in order to be able to inform physicians on significance of test results.  Working knowledge of laboratory safety.  Able to perform testing, documentation, interpretation, and preparation of written reports for ongoing research and development, method development projects. Able to work cooperatively as a team member and maintain a positive, humanistic attitude.
