Pharmacyclics, an AbbVie Company, based in Sunnyvale, CA represents the single largest acquisition AbbVie has ever made, and is key to AbbVie’s corporate strategy to add another very significant growth platform and diversification. Pharmacyclics will be run as a semi-autonomous, fully integrated operating unit of AbbVie, with all functions including among others Commercial, R&D and Manufacturing. The integration into AbbVie should be minimally disruptive for Pharmacyclics; hence the identity, structures and relative independence will be minimally adapted at this time. The new President of Pharmacyclics is Erik von Borcke, currently a senior executive with AbbVie who has relocated to the Sunnyvale Area and reports to the Chairman and CEO of AbbVie, Rick Gonzalez.
Lab manager to support Pharmacyclics small molecule drug discovery programs. Primary assignments involve: Oversee, organize and manage daily laboratory operations of Chemistry and DMPK Departments, and oversee equipment maintenance and reagent purchasing. This position requires a highly motivated, self-disciplined, pro-active individual who can work both independently and part of the team to meet organizational goals.
Key Accountabilities/Core Job Responsibilities:
Create and manage a chemical/material inventory system
Inventory managing: Keep shared consumables and reagents stocked; Ensure the team has the equipment and consumables that it needs: this includes working with lab members to identify the need for equipment and consumables, comparing products from different vendors, coordinating equipment demos, negotiating pricing, placing orders, coordinate with accounting as needed including tracking spending against budget, coordinate with IT department for instrument security issues
Order chemical reagents and other supplies for individual lab scientist
Coordinate lab services including LCMS, HPLC, ISCO, lab coats, equipment and record maintenance and calibration
Work with bench scientist in evaluating the need for new services and identifying the appropriate vendors to provide services
Laboratory liaison with shipping and receiving department
Maintain a clean and safe lab environment, including general lab housekeeping
Assist as needed with activities such as facilities, space planning, and lab safety
Conduct routine laboratory instrument maintenance, such as pump oil change
Chemical lab sample handling and distribution.
Support collegial working environment and culture of honesty, transparency and continuous improvement
Making compound stock solutions
•BS/MS with relevant lab experience, training and hands on experience in synthetic organic chemistry and/or medicinal chemistry strongly preferred
•Hands on experience of working with and maintenance of common laboratory equipment strong preferred
• Experience in handing radioactive materials, eg., 14 C, 3 H
•Great attention to detail, resourceful and well organized
•Ability to work nimbly and create systems to manage various aspects of the lab as needed
• Excellent written and oral communication skills;
•Must be highly collaborative and team-oriented
