Main Responsibilities

The Category Partner will have accountability for a spend category across a region or the whole of AstraZeneca. Major accountabilities include: leading both demand and supply side activities, developing long term strategic plans for the entire spend area within AstraZeneca or Region, managing customer and supplier relationships to ensure that Category Strategies are highly aligned to current and future business needs and that the supply base is capable of supporting these strategies, and overseeing the implementation of category plans to ensure the underpinning process improvement and procurement activities deliver the expected business value in accordance with the strategic plans. In this exciting role, you will have the opportunity to support the Global Category Lead in the development of long term strategic plans for agreed scope of spend area, as well as supporting in strategic relationship management (customer and supplier) - to ensure that Category Strategies are highly aligned to current and future business needs, and that the supply base is capable of supporting these strategies. You will also work with relevant Global/Regional Category Lead(s) to ensure a fully integrated and customer-aligned AZ-wide category plan, and advise on and drive procurement strategies to make decisions necessary to purchase products and services in congruence with organizational objectives. In addition, you will lead and drive complex sourcing projects/category team projects across relevant business areas, coordinate the introduction of new and modified products and services with appropriate departments, perform total cost of ownership evaluations, perform supply-market research and conduct pricing audits and impact analysis for the pursuit of continuous cost improvements. You will need to use appropriate methods and resources to develop and maintain market awareness, including current and future market conditions, analyze and resolve issues raised in procurement audit reports, and advise on contracts and agreements for the supply of complex products and services with new and existing suppliers.

Requirements

Essential Requirements

  • 5-7 years applicable procurement experience
  • Bachelor's Degree required, advanced degree (such as an MBA, MS, JD) a plus
  • Pharmaceutical Procurement experience a definite plus but not required
  • Demonstrated leadership / management and business partnership skills
  • Strong communication, cross functional collaboration and influencing skills
  • Exceptional track record driving procurement's value proposition
  • Supplier Relationship Management and Development experience
  • Ability to leverage a range of influencing techniques
  • Proven ability to manage change
  • Strong analytical and financial skills
  • Ability to work in highly complex and fluid environment
  • Experience leading and participating on cross-functional and/or global teams
  • People management experience, including managing teams of senior professionals and managers and establishing performance expectations a plus
  • Background in most, if not all, key categories of commercial spend, such as Advertising, Media, Market Research, Medical Communications, Conferences, Contract Sales, etc. a plus.
