As a Business Insights & Analytics, Associate Director – Hematology Portfolio in Gaithersburg, MD you’ll play a pivotal role in channeling our scientific capabilities to make a positive impact on changing patients’ lives. GPPS (Global Product and Portfolio Strategy) bridges science and commercial, integrating corporate, portfolio, therapy areas and product strategies, providing strategic direction from early-stage research through to commercialization.
AstraZeneca’s vision in Oncology is to help patients by redefining the cancer-treatment paradigm, with the aim of bringing six new cancer medicines to patients between 2013 and 2020. A broad pipeline of next-generation medicines is focused principally on four disease areas - breast, ovarian, lung and hematological cancers. As well as other tumor types, these are being targeted through four key platforms - immunotherapy, the genetic drivers of cancer and resistance, DNA damage repair, and antibody drug conjugates, underpinned by personalized healthcare and biomarker technologies.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
The Global Analytics & Insight (GA&I) mission is to improve the quality of the decisions taken on our assets and across our disease areas through the provision of excellent market, customer and competitor analytics. This role is based in our Oncology team and will lead the generation of insight and analytics for a single late stage brand or a collection of earlier stage assets.
As Business Insights & Analytics (BI&A) Associate Director, you will lead the integration of insight and analysis from a variety of sources to inform material decisions through the delivery of robust opportunity focused forecasts and consolidate a variety of data and information into actionable brand opportunities. You will have responsibility for the development, delivery and team alignment of the product/brand forecast and related assumptions based on internal best practice processes triangulating with the most robust data possible to maximize confidence in addition to responsibility for ensuring that forecasts are (i) presented transparently and consistently in line with GA&I standards and best practice (ii) underpinned with an AstraZeneca proprietary view of the most important assumptions, based on robust secondary data analytics plus AstraZeneca proprietary data sources and intelligence.
As BI&A, Associate Director you will lead, negotiate and interact with key local markets to validate forecast assumptions and market understanding. You will have responsibility for ensuring that interpretation of primary market research is generating relevant actionable differentiating insights. You will have a closeness to the Global Brand Team / Global Product Team and a strong understanding of the therapy area which will allow you to translate their insight gaps into the correct questions and a technical expertise in research design and interpretation to generate relevant answers.
Working closely with the Competitive Intelligence Director and Agency analyst, you will lead the generation of competitive analysis for a brand, ensuring implications are reflected in the forecast and landed in the brand team. Additionally you will provide objective quantitative analyses and lead the development of business cases to determine key opportunities and address critical business issues for the brand and/or therapeutic area (TA) and you will align and integrate with TA business insight, competitive intelligence and pricing and market access partners to inform forecast assumptions, brand/TA opportunities and brand performance and lead all performance/KPI development and reporting, including best practice sharing across TAs, enabling a thorough understanding of brand performance and opportunities based on a variety of inputs.
Additional responsibilities include developing a deep therapy area knowledge bridging from clinical development through to commercialization, managing all primary research in accordance with internal AstraZeneca compliance policies and best practices, with agreed preferred vendors and responsibility for personal ongoing professional education in business case development (including development and commercial costs), market research, forecasting and analytics, to ensure the best approaches are always utilized.
- Science related degree.
- Demonstrated use of secondary date sources (IMS, Decision Resources, etc.) and performance tracking.
- Experience of working collaboratively across teams; analytical experience in the Pharmaceutical or consumer industries.
- Excellent financial modelling and forecasting skills.
- Experience working in hematology
- In depth knowledge of regional market dynamics through in-market or regional experience.
- Demonstrated ability to influence laterally and vertically.
