We are looking for a an experienced Pipeline Delivery Lead to work within the Alliance and Operations (A&O) group, part of Biometrics and Information Sciences (B&I).B&I drives good design to generate the data needed for quality decision making. The goal of B&I is to deliver value to the pipeline by excellence in delivery, improving decision making, and engaging and shaping the external environment whilst accessing and implementing innovative solutions. A&Ois the group in B&I that oversees strategic initiatives for B&I and supports processes and policies for all sections within B&I to ensure consistency with the department and business. A&O shapes and manages the B&I alliance environment for A&R partnerships and deliverables. Across both areas of A&O there is a consistent focus on budget, resource, change management and continuous improvement.

Focus and challenge of the position
  • Leads the Pipeline Delivery team within B & I
  • Accountability for meeting the strategic aims for the alliance partnerships
  • Ensures successful project management of study level deliverables – both internally and externally led
  • Ensures successful relationships by developing strong partnerships
  • Accountable for the delivery of analysis and reporting deliverables via external partners and will drive efficiencies across the alliance models.
  • Partners with Portfolio & Resource Management Director and Operations Lead routinely to ensure alignment of portfolio planning, sourcing strategy, resource management and risk management activities.
  • As new alliances are created (whether through outsourcing delivery models or collaborative alliances), they will drive strategic selection of vendors and/or set up of collaborations, including defining delivery standards, monitoring systems and early intervention alerts.
  • May be asked to lead complex problem solving projects in B&I and other organizations in GMD.
  • The role requires regular contact with persons of influence and in decision-making positions within AstraZeneca globally.
  • The jobholder requires a high level of cultural sensitivity, interactive communication, negotiation and effective collaboration. This necessitates considerable tact, discretion and persuasion to obtain desired outcomes while maintaining ongoing professional relationships.
  • To serve as a delegate for the Head of Alliance and Operations for specific tasks or activities, as necessary.

Knowledge, skills and experience required

  • University degree (or equivalent)
  • Significant experience from within the pharmaceutical industry or clinical research organization.
  • Extensive knowledge of clinical and pharmaceutical drug development process at various phases of development.
  • Extensive experience of working successfully with external partners
  • Ability to apply strategic direction to a team or project and generate new strategic options
  • Extensive knowledge in project management skills, specifically leading teams
  • Experience working with Senior-level stakeholders
  • Strong strategic influencing and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in line management on a global basis
  • Leadership skills, including the ability to solve problems that involve many decision makers, and develop multiple options/recommendations
  • Extensive networking skills, ability to interact widely and effectively both within the company (on both an interdepartmental and interdisciplinary basis) and externally
  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills, negotiation, collaboration, conflict management and interpersonal skills
