Responsibilities:
Lilly Oncology is committed to “Making Science Personal” and delivering against the corporate strategy of “Improved Outcomes for Individual Patients”. A critical component of the Discovery Oncology organization that is required to execute this strategy is our centralized In Vivo Pharmacology Group. This group of associate and technical staff supports the entire continuum of the drug discovery process from lead generation, to lead optimization and post-candidate selection for all Drug Hunting Teams in Discovery Oncology.

The candidate will:
Conduct in-vivo pharmacological experiments using assays relevant to the development of therapeutics for Oncology; design and perform experiments independently and within team-based environments; interact with internal and external collaborators; and contribute to the In Vivo Pharmacology Group and translational medicine infrastructure.

Key Objectives/Deliverables:
•   Be actively involved in Oncology project teams serving as a scientific and technical advisor to project teams to develop, optimize and validate in vivo models that advance compound and biomarker development or aide in understanding target in vivo biology
•   Develop in vivo models that support the drug discovery process for Oncology; Interact with internal/external collaborators to develop models with cross-functional impact
•   Execute in vivo studies that require specialized knowledge or skillsets including surgical and other complex techniques such as orthotopic models and hormone pellet implants
•   Apply cell biology, molecular biology and imaging techniques for model development and/or study execution Critically analyze data from in vivo studies conducted internally and by our strategic alliance partner, Covance, and other external in vivo pharmacology vendors
•   Present data in informal and formal research settings both internally and at external conferences

Requirements

Basic Qualifications:
•   Minimum requirements:
•   B.S. in veterinary sciences, pharmacology or related discipline
•   Prior in vivo research experience >4 yrs experience in pharmaceutical/biotech industry
•   Proven ability to design and execute experiments in support of cancer research projects, including basic animal handling techniques for rats and mice, observation skills, tumor cell implantation, ability to dose by various routes (IP, IV, PO, Subcutaneous) and basic necropsy skills
•   Working knowledge of cell culture, molecular biology and flow cytometry

Additional Skills/Preferences:
•   Knowledge of mouse colony management and genotyping
•   Experience in imaging techniques (Optical and ultrasound preferred) Strong skills in laboratory techniques and model development Flexible scheduling is a requirement.-In other words, the position is full-time (40 hrs/wk), but on occasion the scheduled work hours will occur after 5 PM or before 8 AM, or on a weekend
•   Preference for formal Green Belt certification
•   Surgical experience is also a preference
