Job Description


   At Synthetic Genomics, Inc., we are dedicated to developing and commercializing genomic-driven solutions to address global challenges. We are currently seeking a Bioinformatics Scientist to join our fast-growing, dynamic and collaborative team in La Jolla, CA.

   The Bioinformatics Scientist will be focused on the development and maintenance of several software projects including biological pipelines, analytical tools, and the development of synthetic biology tools.  The primary responsibilities of this role would include extending existing software packages as well as designing and implementing new packages.  This Bioinformatics Scientist position requires strong programming skills with substantial experience using objected oriented programming and web UI development.

Requirements

Required Skills

-Web programming using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
-Working knowledge formulating complex queries in MySQL or comparable query languages.
-Excellent communication skills
-Ability to work as part of a large team of researchers with diverse backgrounds
-Team player, focused individual with a strong work ethic and great attention to detail

Desirable Skills

-Web programming using Django framework or Ember.
-Experience using software design patterns such as MVC.
-Experience developing RESTful APIs.
-Experience using revision control systems.

Required Experience

-PhD in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Molecular Biology, Genetics or related field.
-6+ years of software engineering using Python, C/C++ or a comparable programming language.
-Extensive experience designing and implementing OOP software.
-Database schema design using MySQL or a comparable RDBMS.
-Experience working within Linux/Unix environments.
-Experience working with bioinformatics tools and understanding of common bioinformatics algorithms.
-Demonstrates a solid scientific proficiency, creativity, ability to collaborate effectively with others, and independent thought processes.
-Knowledge of genetics, molecular biology, and cellular biology.
