Description

We are seeking a highly motivated BioInformatics Developer to participate in a dynamic team focused on the characterization of new algal strains and improving their performance through genetic techniques.  The individual will perform systems administration and programming tasks to support BioInformatics efforts, and participate in genome assembly, genome annotation, and other key BioInformatics tasks.  This individual will also build and maintain web systems to support capture and analysis of laboratory data.  He/she will be responsible for supporting key Informatics infrastructure including databases, automated pipelines, and web sites.

Solazyme is a renewable oil production firm. We are the leader in algal biotechnology, harnessing the power of microalgae to renewably produce clean and scalable fuels, chemicals, and food oils and health and wellness materials.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

-Administer operating systems, databases, and program code to support Informatics and BioInformatics efforts.

-Manage servers, disk space, backups, and tune server performance.  Install and upgrade software.

-Develop code and databases to process laboratory information.  Develop and maintain interfaces to view and report on laboratory information.  Develop, maintain, and deploy web sites for data capture and analysis.

-Develop and maintain BioInformatics analysis pipelines.  Participate in genome assembly, genome annotation, and transcriptome analysis.

-Support staff in their use of biological analysis and reporting applications.

-Solazyme is seeking to add key members to its R&D team. The successful candidate will have the ability, desire, and motivation to integrate their skill set into a dynamic R&D organization that includes pioneering metabolic engineering of microalgae, and the use of next generation sequencing to drive genome analysis and discovery.

Requirements

-B.S. or higher in Computer Science or a related discipline.

-2 or more years experience in computer programming and/or systems administration.

-Strong knowledge of Unix/Linux Operating Systems.  Strong shell scripting skills.
-Strong programming skills in Python, Perl, or a related language.

-Strong knowledge of PHP.

-Database administration, programming, and performance tuning.

-Self-starter who can operate with minimal supervision.

-Team player with excellent problem solving skills.

-Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

DESIRED:

-M.S. or higher in BioInformatics or a related discipline, or completion of a BioInformatics certificate program.

-JQuery & JQuery UI, CodeIgniter or Zend, HTML, CSS.
MVC Design Patterns, Apache, AJAX.

-Complete Knowledge of LAMP stack.

-Web site development and deployment.

-Web programming and/or GUI design skills.

-Database security, Web site security, prevention of cross-site scripting and other attacks, permissioning schemes.

-Experience with Next Generation Sequencing, genome assembly, and gene annotation.

-Sequence analysis, alignment, and database searches.

-MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle database experience.

-SQL, Database Design, Database Query Tuning.
