Principal Accountabilities
1.   Follows pre-defined protocols, policies, procedure, and regulations. Follows good laboratory practices and conducts standard and repetitive experiments and completes basic trouble-shooting techniques.  Sets-up, operates and maintains standard lab equipment.

Requirements

Required education: Master’s Degree

Required experience: At least 3 years of behavioral pharmacology experience required.

Area(s) of expertise desired:  Rat behavioral testing & drug administration
The Technician will perform behavioral pharmacology studies using rats. This will consist of injecting rats with drug, placing the animal into a testing chamber, and recording the animal’s behavior with a video camera. The technician will also quantify rates of various behaviors from video recordings, and entering the data into Microsoft excel. Behavioral tests will include: Bennett and Chung models of neuropathic pain, contexual fear learning, Porsolt test, open field, rota-rod test, and Morris water maze.
The technician will also perform blood and tissue collection as well as assist surgery.

Requirements
THE QUALIFICATIONS LISTED BELOW MUST SUPPORT THE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND SERVE AS THE PRIMARY CRITERIA FOR SELECTING CANDIDATES.

Minimum Qualifications: (Education, experience, and any other certifications or clearances)
1.   Masters Diploma
2.  At least 3 years of behavioral pharmacology experience required.

Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities.)

1. Laboratory mammal handling and euthanasia
2. Drug injection (intraperitoneal or subcutaneous)
3. Behavioral testing
3. Blood and tissue collection

Preferred Qualifications: (Education and experience)

1.   Masters Diploma
This position is Nonexempt.
Full Time - 37.5 hrs./week
