Position Summary:

The Engineer II / Senior Engineer works within the Engineering and Automation Department – Manufacturing Sciences in Gaithersburg, MD.  The Engineering and Automation Department fulfills the critical role of managing all Engineering and Automation functions in support of Clinical Manufacturing at the Gaithersburg Facilities.   The department reports to manufacturing and is accountable for strategic capital project management, automation design and implementation, maintenance of automation systems and administration of infrastructure.  As an Automation Infrastructure engineer, you’ll play a pivotal part in designing, installing and maintaining infrastructure (including networks, security, data privacy, reporting and integration) in support of clinical manufacturing operations.  Critical to this effort is collaboration with process development engineers to create new cGMP designs for the development of novel molecules in the MedImmune pipeline. 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

SME for system, facility, and automation infrastructure. Creates total designs including automation/ facility/mechanical integration. Manages capital project execution from design through operation. Designs and implements new technologies, up-grades, and replacements. Builds code, graphics, databases, configuration of applications, etc.  Maintains multi-site operations including administration of manufacturing systems and infrastructure. Collaborates with departments (QA, QC, IT, etc.) at technical level. Leads multifunctional change control. Manages outside technical consultants. Defines / manages data integrity. Troubleshoots / resolves department issues. Utilize Quality and Six Sigma tools to lead investigations and operational excellence efforts.  Creates department policies. Creates budgets and resource plans for projects. Develops / executes specifications, validation plans, technical training plans, validation documents, etc. Adhere to all safety policies, regulations, and procedures.

  • Experience with automation controls and understanding of relationship between systems.
  • Creative ability to design and adapt technology to solve unique challenges.
  • Strong problem solving skills for Infrastructure and Automation systems.
  • Understanding of data integrity.
  • OSI Pi 2010 to current
    • Architect new environments
    • Create and maintain tags
    • Create web pages for process and supporting equipment for live viewing
    • Administrate and maintain PI databases and interfaces nodes.
    • Datalink, SMT and ProcessBook programing.
    • Coresite a plus
  • In-depth knowledge of TCP\IP based Networking and Firewalls.
  • In-depth knowledge of Windows and Linux Operating Systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of computer hardware
  • In-depth knowledge of virtualization software Hyper-V and VMware.
