Job Summary

The University of Michigan, Department of Otolaryngology has a full-time position available for a Research Audiologist to join a dynamic cochlear implant team that includes basic and translational scientists, audiologists, speech-language pathologists, and surgeons.

Responsibilities*

The position will involve research with adult cochlear implant subjects at the Auditory Prosthesis Perception and Psychophysics Laboratory at the Kresge Hearing Research Institute (initially 60% time under the direction of Dr. Bryan Pfingst) and clinical work with cochlear implant patients at the Cochlear Implant Hearing Rehabilitation Center (initially 40% time under the direction of Dr. Terry Zwolan). Responsibilities will include psychophysical, electrophysiological and speech-recognition testing in adult cochlear implant subjects under approved research protocols and pre- and post-operative assessment and management of adult and pediatric patients including programming of patient?s devices. Responsibilities will also include maintenance of research and clinical records and participation in the analysis, interpretation and presentation of research results. Three different cochlear implant systems are used in our clinical population.

Required Qualifications*

Ph.D. in a hearing-related field and a minimum of one year of clinical experience working with patients with cochlear implants is required. Eligibility for licensure as an Audiologist in the State of Michigan is required in order to begin the clinical portion of the work.

Desired Qualifications*

Previous research experience is desirable. Certification of Clinical Competence in Audiology, awarded by the American Speech and Hearing Association is desirable. This classification requires Primary Source Verification.
