   Main Duties and Responsibilities  

 

   This position is responsible for setting up and conducting all technical operations of the institution’s in vivo PETCT and optical imaging center.  The applicant should be comfortable handling radioisotopes in a setting closely monitored according to regulated health and safety standards.  

 

   Specific responsibilities include:  

       
  •      Review study design and experimental protocols to accommodate logistics of imaging studies    
  •    
  •      Ensure all reagents, supplies, and rodents are properly prepared and staged for imaging sessions    
  •    
  •      Prepare samples at appropriate concentrations and perform IV injection in rodents    
  •    
  •      Perform PETCT and IVIS Spectrum imaging scans on anesthetized rodents    
  •    
  •      Perform tissue collection and obtain blood samples from rodents via retroorbital sinus and cardiac puncture    
  •    
  •      Analyze data using imaging software analysis programs (which includes graphics analysis software) and produce results in the form of tables, graphs, and/or summaries    
  •    
  •      Assist in the development of rodent models which may involve subcutaneous, intraperitoneal, and/or intravenous injections    
  •  

   Essential Requirements  

 

Requirements

   Education:  B.S. or Masters in the Life Sciences or related field.    

   Knowledge  

 
       
  •      Three years of experience working with laboratory rodents    
  •    
  •      Competence in intravenous injections in mice    
  •    
  •      Competence working with data analysis programs (minimum - Excel Spreadsheets)    
  •    
  •      Comfortable working with radioactivity under regulated health and safety standards    
  •    
  •      Ability to work with minimal supervision    
  •    
  •      Ability to lift objects frequently in performing daily work activities    
  •    
  •      Ability to carry objects on a regular basis in the arms or on the shoulders    
  •    
  •      Ability to grasp objects utilizing the fingers (fine motor manipulation)    
  •    
  •      Ability to reach for objects above the head or below the waist.    
  •    
  •      Ability to stand or perform procedures over a lab bench to perform laboratory p    
  •    
  •      Knowledge and use of protective equipment and safety procedures related to the possible exposure to dusts, viruses, tissues, chemicals, fumes, vapors, and mists that could potentially affect the health of the employee    
  •  

   HIGHLY DESIRABLE  

 
       
  •      Masters Level Degree    
  •    
  •      Experience working in an imaging facility and/or research laboratory    
  •    
  •      Experience working with a variety of data analysis software and graphics programs    
  •
