Position Summary:

MedImmune has an opening for an ASI in the Molecular Biology group within the Antibody Discovery and Protein Engineering Department to support pre-clinical research of innovative therapeutic products. Expertise in state-of-the-art molecular biology techniques is critical. The candidate will be part of an interactive team with potential to contribute to multiple pre-clinical programs in Cancer Biology, Respiratory, Cardiovascular, Metabolic diseases and Infectious Diseases using gene and cell-based therapeutics.

Major Duties and Responsibilities (including supervising others):

Job Requirements: We are seeking candidates with a BS and 5-8 years of experience, or an MS with 3-5 years of work expertise in molecular and cell biology. Extensive and current hands-on experience in cloning, nucleic acid purification, RT-PCR, qPCR, site directed mutagenesis, DNA sequence analysis is required.  Work experience using viral vectors such as lenti virus, AAV or adenovirus, and cell based assays using flow cytometry and ELISA is desired. Good communication and documentation skills are essential.

Requirements/Qualifications:

EducationBachelor's Degree in biosciences or similar field plus 5-8 years of experience; or Master's Degree in biological sciences or similar field plus 3-5 years of experience.

Job ComplexityAbility to multi-task is critical.  Candidate must be well organized and must keep an excellent written record of their work.  Candidate must be able to communicate clearly in oral and written form with supervisor and various project team members.

SupervisionAbility to carry out experiments with moderate to low supervision.  It is anticipated that over time this individual will function with greater independence and require little supervision.

Gene cloning

Nucleic acid purification

RT-PCR

qPCR and non-array based gene expression analysis

site directed mutagenesis

DNA sequencing (Sanger method)

ELISA

Flow Cytometry

Familiarity with molecular biology software such as Lasergene or Clone Manager

The ability to multi-task is critical.  The candidate must be well organized and keep excellent written records of their work.  The candidate must be able to communicate clearly in oral and written form with the supervisor and various project team members.  The candidate must be able to carry out experiments with moderate supervision.
