Job Description

Summary: Specifies instrumentation for biopharmaceutical process systems and establishes appropriate calibration range and tolerances. Evaluates new instruments for functional equivalence to existing instrumentation. Authors test plans to demonstrate suitability of replacement instruments. Supports authoring and maintains configuration specifications for cGMP manufacturing equipment.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
* Specifies cGMP process instrumentation, components, and spare parts.
* Completes Calibration Range and Tolerance Justifications forms for all new instruments.
* Evaluates new instruments for Functional Equivalence to existing instrumentation that has become obsolete.
* Review and approve Input/Output lists for automated systems.
* Creates and maintains configuration specifications for cGMP manufacturing equipment.
* Assists in the design review of equipment, and approved supplier lists for instrumentation.
* Writes and executes test plans to demonstrate instrument suitability.
* Implements corrective/preventative actions for existing equipment.
* Prepares engineering evaluations and test plans for change control documentation.
* May supervise engineering contractors.
* Maintains a clean and safe working environment by enforcing procedures, policies, and regulations.
* Maintains company reputation by enforcing compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

Knowledge and Skills:
* Working knowledge of common process instrumentation including but not limited to: load cells, pressure transmitters/gauges, pH sensors, dissolved oxygen sensors, temperature sensors, mass flow meters, UV analyzers, conductivity sensors, TOC analyzers and level sensors.
* Working knowledge of process control systems and automation preferred.
* Knowledge of equipment specification requirements.
* Strong written and oral communication skills.
* Ability to understand project plans and schedules.
* Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, database management software, and PCs.

Requirements

Education and experience:
* Requires BS/BA or higher in engineering with 0-2 years of experience in engineering preferred. Direct experience with biopharmaceutical process equipment is preferred. May substitute relevant experience for education.
