Sucampo Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (SPI) is currently searching for an Associate Director/Director,  Diagnostics US for the office located in Rockville, Maryland. SPI is a global biopharmaceutical company focused on innovative research and development of proprietary drugs to treat gastrointestinal, ophthalmic and oncology-based inflammatory disorders. Job Summary

The AD/Director, Diagnostics is accountable for establishing a world class diagnostic capability for the assigned therapeutic area in line with the company’s overall diagnostic vision and strategy with particular emphasis on US operations. He or she will establish disease identification frameworks to facilitate/develop physician’s disease diagnostic capability. This position reports to the US Head of Operations and works in close partnership with other diagnostics peers outside the US to provide aligned and structured support to the US Commercial team. He or she will develop training and education protocols to ensure acceleration of disease diagnostics and patient identification. He or she will actively contribute to creating the diagnostic vision for the company and executing successfully against this strategy specifically for the assigned franchise.   The incumbent will also partner closely with the necessary internal teams as it relates to launch readiness and business development opportunities in the relevant therapeutic area.

Primary Responsibilities

•   Actively contribute to the creation of the company’s vision of diagnostics as a strategic capability designed to accelerate patient identification across all Company therapeutic areas
•   Execute against this vision within assigned therapeutic area
•   Partner closely with business units to create company standard of testing quality, reimbursement tracking mechanisms and other tools designed to track progress against goals
•   Provide functional guidance and expertise to partners in the US Commercial team.
•   Works effectively across the matrix including R&D and Operations to ensure clear understanding of the diagnostics strategy for the relevant therapeutic area and ensuring the strategy is aligned with business and specific therapeutic area imperatives
•   Provides functional expertise and analysis regarding business development opportunities to ensure possibility for accelerated patient identification across global markets
•   Builds strong relationships and partnerships with 3rd party testing centers and diagnostic laboratories to ensure disease awareness and relevant diagnostic capability
•   Partner closely within the US Commercial team and other country operations to ensure access to timely patient diagnosis including testing reimbursement and country guideline development
•   In partnership with global sales training, prepares and delivers training internally and externally
•   With other Leads, helps to define Sucampo’s standard of testing quality and introduces robust and relevant country and global metrics to track progress against agreed annual testing goals
•   Connects insights, data and technology to enable best decisions for the therapeutic area
•   Develop internal playbook and external toolkit to implement complement diagnostic

Requirements


1.   Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA) in business or science
2.   Master’s degree in business and/or a scientific discipline highly desired
3.   Minimum of 10 years’ experience with a demonstrated track record of commercial success or applicable advanced degree
4.   Experienced pharmaceutical professional with relevant experience in sales, marketing, diagnostics, development or new products at a country, regional or global level
5.   Rare and orphan disease experience with a strong patient focus
6.   Analytical, with track record in delivering against goals while working in high performing diverse teams
7.   In-depth understanding of health insurance benefits, relevant state and federal laws and insurance regulations
8.   Extremely strong communication, mediation, and problem-solving skills
