Job Description

ORIC Pharmaceuticals is a privately-held company dedicated to discovering and developing novel therapies for treatment-resistant cancers.  While recent advances with targeted therapeutics have extended prognoses in many disease settings, cancers often develop resistance to current drugs and relapsed patients lack further treatment options.  The company has assembled a world-class scientific team dedicated to the discovery of therapies that can meaningfully improve clinical outcomes for these patients.  ORIC was founded by two world-class experts in oncology who have strong records of discovering innovative treatments and targets in cancer, and the scientific team is executing multiple drug discovery strategies targeting the mechanisms that allow tumors to become resistant to current therapies.  The company is supported by investors with extensive experience in both drug development and the financing of life science companies and is located in South San Francisco, CA.

Position Purpose:

To lead, develop and implement biomarker and diagnostic strategies to support the development and commercialization of oncology therapeutics. The successful candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary project development team, and will work closely with the biology team to translate preclinical biomarkers.

Primary Responsibilities:

- Lead the development and execution of biomarker and diagnostic strategies for development projects

- Direct the development, outsourcing and validation of clinically applicable biomarker assays (including pharmacodynamic, response, etc)

- Direct internal and outsourced activities to support development and validation of companion diagnostics

- Design, implement and oversee biomarker and diagnostic testing and data analysis


- PhD scientist with 8+ years of relevant academic and/or industry research experience in oncology biomarker and companion diagnostic development

- Ability to work independently leading and conducting biomarker research, and implementing biomarkers in the clinical setting

- In depth experience with the discovery, characterization, clinical validation and utilization of innovative biomarkers and companion diagnostics:
     - Track record of accomplishment in development, outsourcing and validation of clinically applicable biomarker assays is required
     - Experience with gene expression microarrays/RNAseq, qRT-PCR is required, and familiarity with ELISA and FACS would be desirable
