Job Description


This is an incredible opportunity to join a small but growing vaccine company with a bright future. The Assistant Controller will be based at PaxVax’s global headquarters in Redwood City, California and responsible for leading the general accounting functions. The ideal candidate will have at least 12 years of combined experience in a leadership role at a global organization and public accounting firms. The Assistant Controller will be a strategic thinker with proven ability to inspire confidence with direct reports and peers across the organization. This position reports directly to the VP, Finance/Controller.

Responsibilities

•   Manage the world-wide monthly and quarterly close process, including financial statement reviews, with corporate and international locations and business groups to ensure integrity of the financial statements
•   Ensure consolidation process effectively supports internal, external, and tax reporting requirements
•   Lead the day-to-day management of accounting operations with a focus on efficient processes that support business needs including AR/Revenue, purchasing/AP, and reporting
•   Research and resolve all GAAP and technical accounting issues, including new rule adoption projects. Prepare technical memos and act as the internal expert to advise on accounting impacts for transactions
•   Work with the VP of Finance to implement company-wide accounting policies and practices to ensure compliance with US GAAP
•   Manage the external auditors (for the US) and own the successful completion of the year-end audit
•   Collaborate with business partners, customers, and vendors to establish good working relationships and support in driving process improvements
•   Work closely with VP of Finance to ensure vendors are paid timely, and cash forecasts are accurate
•   Work closely with IT and key business owners to drive key SAP Business One system initiatives and improvements
•   Take lead role in  defining user requirements and defining automation of the consolidation process in our ERP
•   Manage and mentor a small team
•   Other responsibilities include but not limited to participate in special projects, system enhancements or ad hoc analyses as assigned

Requirements


•   BA/BS in Accounting or Finance. CPA required (Big 4 experience desired)
•   A minimum of 12 years of accounting and finance experience
•   Recent experience as an Assistant Controller or Corporate Accounting Manager of a public company is a plus
•   Financial systems knowledge as well as expertise and familiarity with financial business applications. ERP knowledge: Must have a strong understanding of ERP system.  SAP B1 preferred.
•   Clear and confident communicator, both written and verbally; Fluency in English is essential
•   Technical experience related to GAAP and reporting including SEC reporting, stock option accounting, mergers and acquisitions, software revenue recognition, and Sarbanes-Oxley requirements
•   Experience with manufacturing company preferred
•   Ability to lead complex projects and cross-functional teams, which require influence and implementation across business groups
•   Demonstrated strong leadership skills, high energy, initiative and creativity - with a proven ability to manage significant initiatives across organizations and across geographies, as well as the ability to effectively manage, mentor, and develop team members
•   Process- and detail-orientation; strong analytical and quantitative skills and superior accounting skills
