Description Job Summary:
Reporting to the Controller, the Assistant Controller will be involved in the direction of all aspects of the accounting operations with key responsibilities which include the following:

o Research complicated GAAP and SEC issues and assist with writing accounting memoranda
o Oversee the preparation of all SEC reports
o Support quarterly auditor reviews and annual audits
o Review calculations of significant / high risk estimates and/or unusual items
o Review XBRL instance documents
o Interact with external auditors.
o Train the Department staff on new accounting pronouncements and SEC rules
o Assist in writing and updating accounting policies and procedures
o Assist with system and software implementations as needed.
o Assist with ad hoc projects as needed.
o Assist in the preparation of quarterly financials for auditor review, including requested schedules.
o Work with the Controller to initiate, review, and implement process improvements across the department while maintaining the integrity and accuracy of the underlying accounting records.
o Assist with inventory valuation and tracking.
o Assist with the development and implementation of internal controls and preparation of SOX 404 compliance.
o Be able to lead, manage and execute on special projects as needed, and across various functions.

Requirements Education and Experience:
o BA or BS in Accounting / Finance or equivalent
o CPA required
o Minimum of 10 years of professional accounting experience. Including at least five years of management experience preferably in a publically traded commercial stage pharmaceutical / Biotech company.

Skills and Abilities:
o Strong financial reporting and accounting skills and knowledge
o Significant SEC reporting/compliance experience
o Strong Microsoft Excel and Word proficiency.
o Strong management and supervisory skills, including coaching and developing employees
o Experienced in managing teams, able to communicate and work cross-functionally
o Hands on experience of managing monthly, quarterly and annual accounting cycles
o Strong analytical and problem solving ability
o ERP systems experience required (Microsoft AX highly preferred)

    o Repetitive motion: Substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and or fingers for sustained periods of time. Approximately 6-hours of keyboarding per day.

    o Comprehension: Ability to understand opposing points of view on highly complex issues and to negotiate and integrate different viewpoints.
    o Decision Making: Ability to make decisions which have impact on the department’s credibility, operations, and services.
    o Communication: Ability to formulate complex and comprehensive materials such as legal documents, authoritative reports, official publications of major scope and impact, etc. and to make formal presentations.
    o Mathematics: Ability to compute, analyze, and interpret numerical data for reporting purposes.
