Job Description

The University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) Department of Family Medicine is recruiting a full-time family physician at the Assistant or Associate Professor level to lead and develop the Department's geriatric programs in clinical care, education and research.  A comprehensive benefits package and incentive plan are included, and salary is commensurate with experience and rank.

The Department has not had a dedicated geriatrics programs in the past, so this is a new position. At UIC geriatrics is a division of general internal medicine, and they are anxious to collaborate with Family Medicine to improve geriatric training, clinical programs and research. We intend to develop a physician home visiting program and need a strong leader for this new program.

UIC Family Medicine has thirty faculty members. The Department is dedicated to clinical care, education and research that meets the primary care needs of a diverse, urban population. Many Department physicians practice at Mile Square Health Center, which serves an inner city population. The Department runs the UIC student health service, serving over 28,000 students. We have a top-rated Family Medicine clerkship that trains 190 medical students each year and an excellent Family Medicine Residency with 24 residents. We are launching a program in primary care clinical informatics this year as well.

Job Responsibilities:

The physician will be expected to establish and lead geriatric programs in clinical care, teaching and research. The percent time devoted to clinical care, teaching and research will be negotiated with the Department Head. Percent clinical effort will be at least 50%.


The successful candidate will be an MD or DO, have or be eligible for an unrestricted medical license in Illinois, and be board-certified in Family Medicine.  Geriatrics certification is required.  Experience in an academic medical center or comparable setting is strongly preferred.
