Job Description

Milo, our new Single-Cell Western platform, makes it possible to run westerns on 1,000 single-cells for the first time.  Named the most innovative life science product of 2016, researchers are utilizing Milo to profile heterogeneity in their samples and gain new insights into the biology of cancer, stem cells, immunology, and human disease and development.  ProteinSimple is looking for an enthusiastic Applications Scientist to support pre-sales demos and post-sales support for the Single-Cell Western product line as we seek to empower and inspire our growing customer base.  This is a hybrid role that will work closely with the applications science team and report to the Director of Marketing for Milo.

Specific responsibilities include:
-   Scoping and planning demo experiments and negotiating clear demo deliverables with customers.
-   Leading demo experiments including new assay development & optimization, antibody validation and data analysis.
-   Preparing summary presentations and presenting demo results back to customers
-   Training new customers and internal stakeholders
-   Being an in-house expert to support field sales & FAS teams and customer support efforts
-   Generating application note content with exciting new applications for the technology

The ideal candidate:
-   Thrives in a hybrid role that includes both in-house experimentation and external work with customers and thought leaders
-   Is passionate about helping researchers do cutting edge science and answer entirely new questions in their research.
-   Has a keen interest in technology along with a high level of self-motivation and excellent organizational skills.


-   Minimum 3 years of hands-on academic or industry experience in a biochemistry, molecular biology, immunology or cell biology lab is required. Experience with flow cytometry is highly desirable.
-   Strong assay development experience.
-   Strong communication and presentation skills with a natural and influential style that comes across in both large seminars and small groups.
-   Experience with training users on instrumentation and software as well as technical writing skills.
-   A strong desire to collaborate both with customers and colleagues and a passion for helping customers succeed.
-   Previous application scientist or other customer-facing experience preferred.
-   Approximately 10-15% domestic and international travel

Level of responsibility will be commensurate with the experience and skills of the candidate.  This is an excellent opportunity for self-motivated individuals who want to have a large impact on getting a new and exciting technology into the hands of researchers.  This position is based in San Jose, CA.

Education Requirements
-   M.S. in life sciences or equivalent experience is required.  
-   Ph.D. and strong immunology or cancer research background preferred.
