Job Description

The opportunity

480 Biomedical is an early-stage medical device company that is bringing biologically-inspired biomaterials systems to the clinic to improve patient outcomes. We are a multi-disciplinary team of biologists, chemists, materials scientists, and engineers, working in close collaboration to understand the biology of disease and to create solutions that address some of today’s most challenging and critical unmet clinical needs.

We currently have an opening for an Analytical Chemist to support development and testing of novel medical devices.  The individual we are looking for must thrive in a fast paced startup environment, be adaptable and be motivated by the opportunity to learn new technologies.

Key areas of responsibility

•   Develop analytical methods to analyze performance and purity of medical devices
•   Analyze and interpret data generated and record data in the appropriate format
•   Update peers/supervisors on progress at group meetings
•   Write study protocols, test methods and technical reports
•   Run, maintain, calibrate and trouble shoot laboratory equipment. Participate in budget planning for capital equipment.
•   Interact and set up contracts with external analytical laboratories
•   Perform laboratory work in an accurate and independent manner
•   Instruct junior scientists on how to prepare samples and operate analytical equipment

Requirements

Qualifications

•   Degree in Analytical Chemistry or related degree with 3-6 years of industry experience
•   Possess a thorough knowledge and understanding of applicable scientific principles
•   Proficient with analytical instrumentation such as HPLC, UV, GC, GPC & FTIR with the aptitude to be trained on additional analytical equipment
•   Experience in validating analytical methods
•   Background or experience in polymers and analyzing polymers considered a strong plus
•   Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the ability to learn new software packages and incorporate them into laboratory processes
•   Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Maintain effective communication with internal and external colleagues
•   An ability to work in a dynamic, small medical device start-up
