Codexis is currently searching for Scientists with industrial or post-doc experience in Cellular Engineering with a proven track record in microbial strain development, pathway design, metabolic engineering, microbial physiology, systems biology and/or related fields.

Codexis technology is used in the energy industry to enable next generation, non-food biofuels and by global pharmaceutical companies for cost-effective manufacturing of human therapeutics. Codexis has a funded collaboration in the biofuels market, and the company is pursuing funded collaborations in several other bioindustrial markets, including carbon management, water treatment and chemicals.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Design and development of commercially relevant organisms for the production of biofuels and industrial chemicals.

Identify biological and chemical pathways at the cellular level and remodeling such pathways.
Validation of genes of interest for projects (via literature searches, database searches, strain isolation, etc), redesign (if required) of their sequences for optimal expression in desired host system, synthesis, and cloning and expression optimization.
Work in concert with the fermentation R&D group.
Work with project teams to provide support and assistance to all phases of projects, contribute to team presentations and written reports.

Requirements

REQUIRED/DESIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

PhD in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Systems Biology or related field.
3+ years experience in yeast genetics.
Good knowledge of yeast metabolic processes and physiology.
Experience with industrial yeast strains a plus.
Ability to prioritize responsibilities and multi-task.
Ability to work independently and within project teams.
Must be able to work and communicate well within project teams.
Must be motivated and able to work under tight deadlines.
Must be flexible, able to work on several projects simultaneously.
Excellent communications skills, both oral and written, as well as presentation skills.
