POSITION SUMMARY:
Asterand, Inc., the leading supplier of human tissue materials and services, is seeking a Director of Inventory Operations. Success in this role is critical to the Companys long term success, thus this position has a very high profile. This position is based in Detroit, MI, and reports to the General Manager, US Operations. The Director will be responsible for effectively matching supply with customer demand and for development of strategies to improve operating efficiencies and service levels while managing an appropriate level of human tissue inventories. The role also has personnel and budget management responsibility.

Requirements

POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES:
Establish inventory policy (Levels of product to maintain by therapeutic area, diagnosis and product format, backorder minimization, model for ordering against vendor lead time)
Define a material safety stock and replenishment strategy, identify trigger points for ordering additional materials, and apply inventory requirements across clinical sites
Implement new material planning methods for budget preparation and forecasting
Develop and implement a robust forecasting and ordering system
Manage, monitor and report on inventory levels and expected receipts for ordered material
Establish and manage to metrics measuring compliance to inventory control policies and procedures.
Oversee processes for improving and monitoring inventory accuracy, monitoring delivery of materials, identifying and removing obsolete materials from biorepository
Develop and implement standardized methods for clinical site management; identify key requirements at donor site for successful procurement of clinical specimens and associated data
Hold donor site managers accountable for donor site performance, identifying key drivers of defects and developing/executing improvement programs
Create a sourcing strategy based on donor sites abilities to procure materials demanded by customers.
Establish policies, procedures and capabilities around Asterands custom procurement operations; create a culture of continuous improvement and identify methods for streamlining operations.
Identify and deliver cost savings through simplification and standardization of purchasing methods and donor site management
Establish methods for tracking materials purchased against materials obtained; ensure payment to vendors for materials purchased at the appropriate quality levels
Set materials receiving schedules and manage materials throughput for standard inventory (XpressBANK) as well as pass-through materials (ProCURE and PhaseZERO)
Identify drivers of performance gaps in the supply chain and make recommendations to improve performance
Supervise and train inventory management and tissue purchasing staff
Manage tissue acquisitions budget

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND/OR EDUCATION REQUIRED:
Bachelors degree in Supply Chain management, Industrial Operations Engineering, Operations Management or other relevant degree
Five years purchasing/supply chain/inventory control experience in a high-tech industry.
Three years management experience
Expert knowledge of supply chain management and inventory control
Excellent PC Skills (Word/Excel/Outlook)
Must have strong analytical skills and ability to forecast inventory need based on historical trends and current demand metrics
Previous experience in Lean Manufacturing, JIT, demand-flow technology, and Kanban material management is desirable.
Ability to propose appropriate solutions
Ability to build and maintain productive relationships with other departments
Demonstrated ability to lead, supervise develop, mentor and evaluate staff
Supervisory responsibility: this job has hiring and firing authority; formally appraises performance, coaches/counsels employees; takes necessary disciplinary actions; and determines method in which work is performed.
