Procurement Manager - Research and Development

Responsibilities:
The Procurement Manager maximizes the value delivered to Genentech through 3rd party expenditure and the management of internal costs. He/she will manage a portfolio of spend cost categories in (Research and Early Development) gRED , working cross functionally with internal stakeholders and external suppliers. The individual is responsible for developing, maintaining and implementing sourcing strategies and managing 3rd party relationships and performance. The Procurement Manager must exercise sound business judgment and acumen in leveraging and implementing sourcing and procurement methodologies that includes alternative scenarios to meet business priorities.

The incumbent will demonstrate a thorough understanding of business requirements so that diverse sourcing strategies are implemented using spend portfolio knowledge, proactively managing stakeholder and suppliers expectations and demonstrating a solid understanding of the supply market are critical to being successful. The candidate will develop pricing analysis, modeling, purchase price cost analysis and identify competitive benchmarks. He/she will facilitate and manage cross-functional sourcing initiatives, including Make or Buy activities.

REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 10 years of related experience. An MBA and international experience if preferred as is a PhD in Biochemistry, Biology, Pharmacology or Pharmaceutics. The applicant must have proficiency and experience with advanced procurement methodologies and strategic sourcing approaches and techniques. He/she must have demonstrated ability in leading complex projects to successful and on-time completion. A solid working knowledge of SAP or other ERP and a thorough knowledge of the business, markets, regulations and cGMP operations in the biopharmaceutical industry are desirable but not required. He/she must possess the ability to manage and control an annual spend program of $10 - $100M.
