Responsibilities: Responsible for the development of new assays (in vitro and ex vivo) and the evaluation of new methodologies to support immunological assessment of both ligand binding assays as well as cell-based functional assays. Responsible for preparation of samples, equipment maintenance and tracking, experimental record keeping (including GLP), evaluation of data, and operating instruments including (but not limited to) flow cytometer, ECL instrumentation, UV-VIS plate readers, and RIA equipment. Responsible for the development, execution and validation of new assays including but not limited to ligand binding assays (e.g., biomarkers, PK, and immunogenicity assays) and flow cytometry-based assays.
The successful applicant will be responsible for the development of new assays which MPI offers as a full service immunotoxicology and immunoassay laboratory. The candidate will be expected to evaluate new methodologies and technologies to increase efficiency and streamline work processes. The candidate will be responsible for mentoring and training the junior level laboratory personnel in these new assays/methods. The candidate will also support the daily operation of the equipment and software used for immunotoxicology analysis and assure that the laboratory is maintained in a GLP compliant manner. The candidate will assist in sample preparation, tissue culture and assessment and analysis of the results obtained when necessary. General maintenance and upkeep of the laboratory is also expected. Preparation of purchase orders for management review will be necessary as well as the proper documentation of data, training and record keeping. The applicant may be called upon, as appropriate to interact directly with Study Directors and sponsors focusing on the scientific and technical feasibility of existing laboratory capabilities and implementation of new assays and techniques.
Requirements
Qualifications:
This position requires a PhD degree and at least five years of relevant laboratory experience or a Masters degree and at least ten years of relevant laboratory experience. The applicant will have a broad and well-documented track record and experience in modern immunological methods. Candidate must be knowledgeable in basic research principles with a thorough understanding of biological processes and a demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment. The candidate will have a demonstrated ability to solve research problems and implement new technologies. The applicant must have significant training in immunological methods and will have proficiency in basic laboratory techniques including, but not limited to, reagent preparation, in vitro cell culture techniques, sterile techniques, and basic chemistry. Experience with ELISA, ECL, Luminex, MSD is highly desirable. A working knowledge of MS Excel, SoftMax and MS Word and other basic software applications is a must. The candidate should possess good oral and written communication abilities, and strong organizational skills.
