Description

Vertex is seeking a talented individual to join our Managed Markets organization. Working closely with the VP, Managed Care, the Director, National Accounts will be responsible for developing the customer segment strategy as well as play an important role in the establishment and expansion of Vertex's Managed Markets organization. Through hiring, training and managing a team of account executives, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, and overseeing the development and execution of managed markets strategic account plans, this individual will ensure patient access and reimbursement coverage for telaprevir, a novel protease inhibitor for Hepatitis C treatment, as well as future pipeline products.

Key responsibilities include:

- Consistent with the Vertex vision and values, oversee the development and execution of customer level strategic plans to support the successful penetration of pharmacy, medical, actuarial, and case management organizations and cultivate the design of innovative solutions to address customer needs and reduce and minimize reimbursement barriers with Managed Care customers

- Communicate to internal stakeholders, major customer trends and reactions to changing political landscape, a national perspective on customer needs and requests, and with the Director, Regional Accounts on effective account management.

- Hire, train, develop, and manage a best-in-class national account team

- Lead contracting negotiations between contracting, operations, and national and regional customers

- Provide leadership and development to internal and external matrix teams to support strong relationships with national accounts and health plans

- Develop and foster strong and collaborative relationships with finance, marketing, sales, government affairs, human resources, and all other internal stakeholders

Requirements

- A Bachelor's degree with a preference for an MBA or PharmD- 10 + years experience in pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology industries- 4 + years of National Account experience, including experience managing large accounts as well as major pharmacies, medical, actuarial, and case management organizations- 4 + years of direct management experience with a preference for experience managing a field based manage care organization- In-depth knowledge of current trends in regulation and reimbursement modalities as well as managed care and payor landscapes- Highly successful and demonstrated experience implementing pull-through programs- Ability to multi-task as well as be strategic, creative and innovative in a dynamic, fast paced matrix team environment- Ability to complete projects and achieve goals on time while delivering high quality results- Possess strong initiative and ability to identify issues and create solutions- Outstanding customer relationship, interpersonal and communication skills with the established ability to effectively communicate across diverse audiences and influence cross functionally- Strong analytical skills with the proven ability to effectively analyze data sets to determine trends and establish strategiesVertex Pharmaceuticals Incorporated is a global biotechnology company committed to the discovery and development of breakthrough small molecule drugs for serious diseases.
