The city of Bellevue (JOBS) is located to the east of Seattle (JOBS), across Lake Washington. Bellevue, which was founded in 1869, was incorporated in 1953. The city's name is derived from the French for "beautiful view," and with views of the Seattle skyline, the Olympic and Cascade mountain ranges, Lake Washington to the west, and Lake Sammamish to the east, the name still fits today.
Bellevue is a growing community with a thriving economy that mixes high-tech, retail, banking, services, and corporate headquarters. With the high-tech in the area, it's no surprise that the Bellevue School District is one of the most wired in the country, with a computer in every classroom.
When you want to get out to enjoy the area's temperate climate, you can head out to nearby state parks, including – to name just a few – Bridle Trails, Lake Sammamish, Saint Edward, or Saltwater. And, of course, there are also nearby national parks, forests, and recreation areas, of which just two are Olympic, located about 90 miles (145 kilometers) to the west, and Mount Rainier, located about 80 miles (129 kilometers) to the south. Or stay closer to home, and hike the city's 50+ miles (80+ kilometers) of trails, enjoy one of dozens of parks, or go golfing.
