The community of Riverside, set in California's Riverside County, has a population of more than 255,000, and is the largest in the Inland Empire area. The city is the birthplace of California's orange industry, which dates to the importation of the Brazilian navel orange in 1871. (As a little piece of trivia, one of the city's two original orange trees can still be found producing oranges today).
Set just an hour east of Los Angeles (JOBS), the people of Riverside have built (and preserved) some elegantly designed buildings over the years. The famous Fox Theatre, built in 1929, for instance, hosted many celebrities over the years and showed the first public screening of Gone with the Wind in 1939. Another landmark of much renown is the Mission Inn, a lavish four-star hotel, which has hosted a number of heads of state and celebrities. The hotel provides tours of its majestic grounds.
These are but some examples of the rich heritage upon which Riverside built its foundation. While preserving its past, Riverside plans to support its future. Careful planning has led to a well-developed city that is dynamic and progressive. With its thriving economy and gorgeous scenery in concert with a lively history and culture, Riverside is a great place to live.
