Sandy Springs is a city located in Fulton County, only 15 miles (24 kilometers) north of downtown Atlanta (JOBS). Settlement in the area dates to the 1800s, but the city itself is new, having only been incorporated in 2005. Sandy Springs now has a population of more than 90,000.
The city borders along the north and west with the Chattahoochee River, and residents have easy access to the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area. Sandy Springs' Recreation & Parks Department. has 12 parks and numerous facilities for the family to enjoy, including the Big Trees Forest Preserve, which has 1.5 miles (2.4 kilometers) of walking trails.
Sandy Springs has an educated population, with the city website reporting that 60% of the residents of the community have earned a Bachelor's degree and/or a Master's degree.
The perimeter area of Sandy Springs is home to several large corporations' headquarters, including UPS, Newell-Rubbermaid, and Arby's. Sandy Springs also has access to a large number of life-science companies from biotechnology, pharmaceutical and medical device. AtheroGenics, Inc., Theragenics Corporation, Sciele Pharma, Inc., Solvay Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Geo Vax Labs Inc., GeneCure Biotechnologies, Aruna Biomedical, Inc. , and Alimera Sciences are just to name a few of the companies located in Gerogia.
