The city of Boynton Beach is located in southern Florida (JOBS), 14 miles (23 kilometers) south of Palm Beach and 30 miles (48 kilometers) north of Fort Lauderdale. It is part of Palm Beach County, and home to 60,389 residents.
Boynton Beach was established as a winter resort, and took its name from hotel owner Major N.S. Boynton. To learn more about local history, visit the Schoolhouse Children's Museum, which interprets the history of the region from the 1900s to the present.
Not surprisingly, Oceanfront Park is the city's biggest attractions. Open 365 days a year, the park invites you to frolic in the Atlantic surf, walk along the quarter-mile-long sandy beach, and enjoy events like the Oceanfront Concert Series and Beachfest. In addition to the beach, the city's Recreation and Parks Department, also manages eight recreation centers, 27 parks, and hundreds of classes and programs for citizens of all ages. For golfers, there's the spectacular Links at Boynton Beach, which features both an 18-hole championship course, and a 9-hole family course.
Boynton Beach is also home to some unique Florida delights, like Mangrove Nature Park and two citrus groves. The Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge is a must-see for any nature enthusiast. This refuge contains more than 147,000 acres (59,489 hectares) of Everglade and cypress swamps, and protects many animals such as the American alligator and hundreds of bird species. In addition to wildlife watching, the refuge also offers opportunities for fishing, hiking, canoeing, biking, and other recreational activities.
