Gary, Indiana (JOBS) is located at the southern tip of Lake Michigan, 32 miles (51 kilometers) southeast of downtown Chicago. The city, with a population of about 102,746, is the largest in Lake County. Positioned near three major interstates, Gary is known as the "Crossroads of America."
Gary has a four-season climate, with January highs averaging 30F (-1C) and July highs averaging 84F (29C). A great place to enjoy the outdoors is at the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, which runs for nearly 25 miles (40 km) along the lake, from Gary in the west towards Michigan City in the east. The park contains about 15,000 acres (6,070 hectares) of land, not including the separate, 1,530-acre (619-hectare) Indiana Dunes State Park. They are a great place to get out and enjoy beaches, sand dunes, wetlands, bogs, and forests during days off.
