The Township of Union (JOBS), New Jersey, is located in Union County, just six miles (10 kilometers) southwest of Newark and 16 miles (26 kilometers) west of New York City. Its population is 54,405. There are two other New Jersey communities with similar names, the Township of Union and Union City, both located in Hunterdon County.
Union has a long and rich history, and was the site of the 1780 Battle of Connecticut Farms, a minor battle in the Revolutionary War. The Caldwell Parsonage Museum dates from the same period, and was once burned by British troops. The Liberty Hall Museum was built by New Jersey governor William Livingston in 1772, and is another well-known heritage site. Visitors can tour this Georgian mansion, learn about the lives of its former inhabitants, and enjoy afternoon tea while overlooking the lovely formal gardens. The Union Watersphere is another famous landmark. This water tower with a ball-like top is 212 feet (65 meters) tall, and was once the world's tallest watersphere until it was surpassed by a watersphere in California. For some outdoor fun, try a trip to Elizabeth River Park, Kawameeh Park, or Lenape Park in Mays Landing.
Union, being close to both Newark and New York has access to some of the biggest biotech and pharmaceutical companies in the enitre state. The New Jersey Transit and major turnpikes are helpful for commuters.
