The clearing house for biotechnology matters at the San Jose State University campus is the Biotechnology Education and Research Institute (BERI) which incorporates faculty and students from the Departments of Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Civil Engineering. In addition to offering a range of lecture and laboratory biotechnology courses including separation sciences, immunology (hybridomas), recombinant DNA, and biochemical engineering, BERI maintains a Cell Culture Facility which houses 8 hoods, inverted microscopes, CO2 incubators and centrifuges for student laboratory instruction. Advanced students (seniors and master's level) are available for internships with local industry. Faculty have active research programs in a number of areas which train students in various aspects of biotechnology.
Please contact the BERI Director for a brochure.
