The Biotechnology Certificate Program (BCP) at Cal State Hayward was established in 1986 to meet the personnel requirements of the rapidly expanding Bay Area biotechnology industry. This nine month, 28 unit, post-baccalaureate program is staffed by research faculty from the Departments of Biological Sciences and Chemistry. The BCP is a competitive, limited enrollment program emphasizing close supervision and instruction in current theoretical and practical training in the molecular life sciences. Each course in ten weeks in length and most feature a minimum of 60 hours of hands on training.
The current curriculum includes courses in protein purification and characterization, recombinant DNA techniques, DNA sequencing and analysis, cell culture methodology and polymerase chain reaction.
Over the past seven years, the BCP has placed over 110 graduates in the biotechnology industry, government and academic laboratories.
