The BioScience Program at Shattuck-St. Mary’s School offers highly motivated high school students a “head start” in their preparation for a career in medicine or biotechnology.

In addition to a curricular foundation of human anatomy and physiology, bioethics and public health, the BioScience Program also devotes time to activities that supplement and enhance all aspects of classroom education. Within this component of the program, students interact with current life science professionals including physicians, researchers, owners of biotechnical firms, government officials and lawyers, to name a few.An additional component of the BioScience Program requires that each student complete a long-term research project under the supervision of a university professor or a bio-business scientist. This allows each student to experience the nature and reality of scientific research.

Upon graduation from the program, BioScience students will take away both practical skills and classroom knowledge as well as first-hand experience in many areas of medicine and the life sciences. They will be familiar with all stages of the research and development process of medical technology; they will be aware of all the career opportunities available to science-oriented students, and they will have a highly focused plan for their post-secondary education.

Shattuck-St. Mary’s School is a college preparatory, coeducational boarding and day school located in Faribault, MN. It currently serves 450 high school students in grades 6 – 12, representing 36 states and 20 countries. Among the oldest educational institutions in Minnesota, Shattuck-St. Mary’s School was established in 1858 and sits on a historic 250-acre campus.
