The Biotechnology Initiative (TBI) is a non-profit organization committed to promoting the growth of biotechnology in Ontario. While biopharmaceuticals and diagnostics are core strengths of this community, it also has broad research capability and growing commercial activity in agri-food biotechnology as well as the emerging resource and environmental biotech industries.

The mission of TBI is to assist in the development of the biotechnology industry, including medical therapies, agri-technology, industrial biotechnology, nutraceuticals and convergent medical technologies in Central Ontario by working with industry, researchers, educators, students, suppliers, and government. TBI represents and advances the Ontario life sciences and biotechnology industry to encourage development and commercial success.

TBI accomplishes this by providing:

• Government advocacy
• Stakeholder engagement
• News and communications
• Networking functions
• Member mentoring and education
• Negotiated Discounts

Biotechnology in Central Ontario

Over 31% of Canada’s biotechnology industry is located in the Central Ontario corridor. The community includes many of the most dynamic companies in Canada’s growing bio-industry, from start-ups to international biopharmaceutical companies. A critical foundation for the biotechnology industry in this region is its superlative underlying infrastructure of universities, research institutions and hospitals.

As the business and investment centre of Canada, Central Canada also hosts a wealth of financial, legal, accounting and other service specialists who are essential partners in the growth of the biotechnology industry.

TBI believes that building a strong future for biotechnology lies in cooperation and collaboration between these partners.

The Biotechnology Initiative (TBI) brings together the worlds of research and government, business and finance, to promote Ontario as a major international center for biotechnology. We can help you find new business opportunities and contacts in one of the fastest growing life-science communities in Canada. Our members represent the biotechnology industry, research institutes, universities, financial organizations, legal and accounting firms as well as the municipal, provincial and federal levels of government. We identify the unique needs of the members of our community, and provide essential services to meet these needs.
