Tekscan®, Inc. Release: Remote Triggering Now Available for the F-Scan® In-Shoe Analysis System

Boston, MA – Tekscan®, Inc. is pleased to introduce new products that improve the flexibility of their VersaTek® Wireless and Datalogger systems, including the F-Scan® (link) in-shoe plantar pressure analysis system. These new remote triggering products, the Trigger Transmitter (TT-1) and Trigger Receiver (TR-1), allow users to synchronize F-Scan Wireless and Datalogger recordings with other measurement devices, such as electromyography (EMG) and motion analysis systems, providing them with the necessary coordination of data for a more complete and thorough analysis.

As the technology used for medical research and treatment continues to advance, it becomes increasingly important for researchers and clinicians to be able to coordinate measurement devices when studying human movement. Tekscan’s product development team set out to address this market need by enhancing the trigger synchronization capabilities of their plantar pressure measurement products. They developed new software and hardware products that could coordinate recordings between Tekscan systems and other analysis systems in the gait lab. The new triggering devices will synchronize the start and stop of data collection with an F-Scan system and an EMG system, so users can evaluate the relationship between muscle activity and plantar pressures as their subject runs or jumps. The TT-1 and TR-1 even allow users to synchronize recordings frame-by-frame with devices that provide a pulse-per-frame signal, like a 3-D motion analysis systems. The data can then be played back simultaneously, or it can be exported in an ASCII format for statistical analysis.

These new capabilities let F-Scan Wireless and Datalogger users capture different kinds of data for the same activity, giving them a more complete picture of human gait and foot function. They also incorporate plantar pressure measurements into a video gait analysis, streamlining the billing process for clinicians. Tekscan is proud to be the only manufacturer to offer wireless, external triggering for in-shoe systems.
