OFS Laboratories to Present Paper on Effects of High Humidity and High Temperature on Optical Fiber for High-Power Delivery

AVON, Conn., Jan. 19, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The Specialty Photonics Division of OFS Fitel, LLC (OFS SPD), a leading provider of optical fiber, cable, and assemblies for medical device manufacturers, announces that Dr. Lei Huang will present "Effects of high humidity and high temperature on failure of optical fiber for high-power delivery" at the upcoming BiOS Technology Conference. Dr. Huang will present on Saturday, January 21st at 2:20PM, in room 238 (Mezzanine)

Large core silica optical fibers are often used for delivering high power laser for medical applications. It has been observed that optical fibers that are transmitting high power laser light may fracture when bent and that the polymer cladding or coating of the fiber plays a significant part in determining the fiber strength. Dr. Huang's presentation will examine the fiber performance in bending under high laser power after the fiber has been autoclaved subjecting the fiber to high humidity and high temperature a common method of sterilization.

OFS SPD will exhibit and showcase its line of optical fiber, cable, and assemblies for the medical market at the BiOS Tradeshow, January 21st22nd.
