Triangle Business Journal - by Amanda Jones Hoyle -- Executives for medical device maker Becton, Dickinson and Co. will kick off construction of the company’s $38 million East Coast distribution center in Johnston County on Oct. 1 following a ceremony at the Four Oaks Business Park.
The Keith Corp. of Charlotte will develop and build the 720,000-square-foot facility. BD (NYSE: BDX) has negotiated a long-term lease contract for the facility from The Keith Corp.
BD announced in July that it would create 187 jobs in Four Oaks with the construction of a new distribution facility that would serve BD clients in the eastern United States. BD specializes in the development, manufacture and sale of medical devices and instruments.
The company could qualify for state and local incentives worth $2.3 million if its meets hiring and investment goals.
BD, which is based in Franklin Lakes, N.J., will be the first corporate tenant in the Four Oaks Business Park, which is being developed by The Keith Corp. BD already employs about 900 people in North Carolina at facilities in Research Triangle Park, Durham, Burlington, Mebane and Wilson.
North Carolina Secretary of Commerce Keith Crisco is expected to attend the 9 a.m. event at the BD distribution center site, as are government leaders from Four Oaks and Johnston County and Keith Corp. Chairman Graeme M. Keith.
