Drugmakers Including Abbott Laboratories (ABT), Biogen Idec, Inc. (Massachusetts) (BIIB) and Merck & Co., Inc. (MRK) Form Consortium

Boston, MA— Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick and the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center will join with seven global biopharma companies to announce a major new collaboration at the 2012 BIO International Convention on Wednesday, June 20th at 10:00 a.m. Abbott, Biogen Idec, EMD Serono, Janssen Research & Development, Merck, Pfizer and Sunovion Pharmaceuticals Inc. will join the announcement in the Massachusetts Pavilion (Booth #0137).

WHAT: Press Conference with Governor Deval Patrick, the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center, Abbott, Biogen Idec, EMD Serono, Janssen Research & Development, Merck, Pfizer and Sunovion to unveil a major new research collaboration.

WHEN: Wednesday, June 20, 2012, 10:00 a.m. Eastern Time

WHERE: The 2012 BIO International Convention at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center, Massachusetts Pavilion (Pavilion #0137), 415 Summer Street, Boston, MA 02210

Distinguished speakers at the press conference will include:

• Gov. Deval Patrick, Commonwealth of Massachusetts

• James Hoyes, President, EMD Serono

• Jeffrey S. Flier, Dean of Harvard Medical School

• Susan Windham-Bannister, President & CEO, Massachusetts Life Sciences Center

• Patients representative of those potentially impacted by the research to be conducted through the new collaboration
