Dr. Melanie Grossman Among First in US to Offer Ulthera's Ultherapy(TM) Non-Invasive Tissue Lifting

4/19/2011 6:53:47 AM

NEW YORK, April 19, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Cosmetic and laser dermatologist Melanie Grossman, MD, today announced her practice is among the first in the US to be trained in Ultherapy, a face and neck treatment recently cleared by the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) for non-invasive tissue lifting. The innovative procedure uses ultrasound to tighten and lift loose, lax skin.

"Ultherapy represents a new category in aesthetics for treatment of the sagging and laxity that is common in aging skin," said Dr. Grossman. "The amount of research behind this ultrasound technology is impressive and my patients are very pleased with the results."

Ultherapy is based on proprietary technology from Ulthera®, Inc., a therapeutic ultrasound medical device company. First, the ultrasound is used to visualize multiple layers of deep tissue in the face and neck. Then, guided by the images, the physician focuses the ultrasound energy to target the collagen fibers and support structure that act as the skin's foundation. Over time, and as a result of gravity, this foundation loses its strength and begins to sag. The Ultherapy treatment stimulates the body's own regenerative response to gradually restore memory to the skin and build new collagen.

During the procedure, the physician gradually moves a handpiece over the contours of the face and neck. Depending on the areas treated and the degree of laxity, the procedure can take 30-90 minutes. Improvement can begin immediately for some patients, followed by further improvement over two to three months. There is no downtime associated with the procedure.

Clinical studies show a consistent lifting of the brow after just one treatment, creating a more refreshed "open" look in the eye area. Patients have also noticed a softening of the creases around their nose and mouth, a more defined jawline, less laxity under the chin and a generally firmer feel to the skin.

"Ultherapy treats aging skin from the inside out, targeting the foundation of collagen fibers that provide support and firmness," said Dr. Grossman. "It's is an ideal non-surgical treatment for women and men who want to restore firmness and resiliency to their face and neck, fighting the subtle effects of gravity."

In addition to Ultherapy, Dr. Grossman is proud to offer CoolSculpting, a ground-breaking technology cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for non-invasive reduction of fat. Developed by Zeltiq, CoolSculpting uses a patented cooling technology to reduce fat in areas that don't respond to diet and exercise, including love handles, flank and back bulges.

"This is a very exciting time to be involved in cosmetic dermatology," said Dr. Grossman. "Ultimately, our patients reap the benefits of such advances in technology and science."
