Bad Wildbad, Germany, July 11, 2012 / B3C newswire / - Berthold Technologies, specializing in bioanalytical instruments for the research and the diagnostics markets, awarded the Marlene DeLuca prices to four young scientists.

The prices were given at the 17th International Symposium on Bioluminescence and Chemiluminescence to researchers from Japan, Italy, France and the U.S.A. The Marlene DeLuca award - traditionally sponsored by Berthold Technologies - is intended to encourage young scientists and includes a $1,500 donation.

It has been named in honour of Marlene DeLuca who has pioneered the science of bioluminescence and chemiluminescence, one of her many contributions being the first cloning of the firefly luciferase gene.

The recent event took place in Guelph, Canada, and had been hosted by Dr. Luba Brovko, Adjunct Faculty of Food Science.
